I have a 12-year son with autism - so this book was like a look into the past, present and future for me as the author's son is much older than my son. I really enjoyed this book and found it inspiring. It is a "must read" for all parents - and in fact - for anyone seeking to better understand life with autism.The book is full of useful information but for me it was the "real-life" stories of the Schostek family's ongoing journey to help their son Greg that made it valuable and made me hopeful. I actually laughed out loud several times as I could totally relate to many of the stories. They certainly help to put both the day-to-day challenges and the joys into prespective. But most of all, this book is thought-provoking - and that's a good thing because we all need to take the time to think about "what happens next".
Kudos to the Schostek family for sharing their story - it will be helpful to many. And good luck to Greg in everything that happens next!

Clear, concise, frank talk with a heaping of fatherly love. Autism books by fathers are rare. Truly engaged fathers of loved ones with autism—in the enormity of details of making this complicated life work—are rare. An exceptional young Vanderbilt special education graduate student gifted me this book by her father, the author. Anne, the son's sister, was a sitter for my daughter for a short while. My own daughter was approaching this perilous age. Having just spent a year engaged on this end of the journey, I took the book down and consumed this father's recount. I have tremendous respect for Rick Schostek because of his tremendous level of engagement in his son's life, in a number of organizations that help support families living with autism, and all while working as a high-level executive.
An enjoyable read and great story about a family adapting to ASD. And you'll be glad you spent some time to get to know their son Greg.
I think "What's Happens Next? Raising a Son with Autism" did a great job of explaining the issues and challenges of autism within our community. I read it in one sitting and came away better informed.
Written so clearly and so simply...from the heart of a father who is in love with his child who happens to have autism. Absolutely wonderful read for any father...unconditional love at its finest. And it's very enlightening for those of us who have never experienced life with an autistic child. Engaging...like talking over a cup of coffee with a good and honest friend.
Shostek does a great job educating those of us who only have peripheral knowledge of what autism is and how it affects the family. I never knew how wide the range of the autism spectrum is and what level of assistance was available through programs to help families cope with all the challenges of raising a child with autism. It just seems like finding the cause of this condition is within reach. God bless the Shostek family and all those families who have answered the challenge of raising a child with special needs.

Cried and cried. It has lots of useful info for when my grandson grows up and we start the struggle of adulthood/ life challenges for a disabled person. Very nicely written.
